A-1 - “Cough Cool”

Back with more A-1, who rips on a pretty cynical Misfits sample which I think is pretty dope. He keeps it real with his lyrics and a cool video that stays true to the feel of the beat. As Nation of Thizzlam puts it, he "shows Manhattan for what it really is: a corporate-run police state. It's kind of the inverse of the sense of freedom that "Empire State of Mind" puts out, and it's not subject matter most rappers bother trying to tackle, so I can definitely appreciate that.

P.S. dude murders the 2nd verse, damn. "Now if this isn't the realest then it comes close The bass hit you in face with the blunt force I used to think this was the country that I loved most Now my stomach hurts when somebody mention the Gulf Coast Like, why is the world so ugly? We throw away food, half of the world goes hungry I come from the town that was built from that gold money But just like my nigga Dan I don't come from that old money No. No. See we made that old money That work a slave into the grave type old money My mama immigrated she come from the old country My daddy immigrated, he could fit his whole country In the state of California he thought he was so lucky Just to be here, get a degree and hold money Get a job, step up his game and fold money Now he's trying to get the money the government stole from him Damn, that's why I'm not too close with my uncle Sam And if you ever been broke then you understand Some people like the institution but I'm not a fan Mama named me Adam but she shoulda named me Oscar Grant I'm half black but I feel like I'm three-fifths Until I get the other four-tenths no peace bitch"

UPDATE: Looks like he had to change the beat due to the sample hmmm
